What is Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP)?

Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) is a supportive therapeutic approach that uses ketamine as a catalyst for meaningful change and healing. For some individuals, long-standing patterns of thought and emotion can become deeply rooted, making it challenging for traditional talk therapy alone to create the necessary shifts for relief and growth. KAP offers a unique opportunity to access new perspectives, emotions, and experiences. These experiences can gently open the door to healing by helping individuals reconnect with their inner resources and move toward greater emotional flexibility and resilience.

The most profound benefits of KAP often come through integration—taking the insights and experiences from the medicine sessions and weaving them into everyday life. With compassionate support and intentional practice, this integration process can help foster lasting transformation and a deeper sense of well-being.

How is KAP done at Mosaik Journeys?

Mosaik Journeys will collaborate with Made to Thrive Mental Health Wellness to offer a unique integration of medical and psychotherapeutic support essential for KAP.

  • The first step in the process is to schedule a diagnostic and medical clearance assessment with Made to Thrive. This ensures that the individual has the appropriate diagnoses and is medically cleared to participate in KAP.
  • Once medical clearance and a referral from Made to Thrive are obtained, the individual will complete a KAP assessment with Mosaik Journeys. If KAP is determined to be an appropriate fit, they will then be scheduled to join a KAP group.

KAP is offered in small, supportive groups of 4–6 individuals. These cohorts meet over the course of six weeks, engaging in a total of 20 hours of psychotherapy. Sessions are thoughtfully structured to include preparation, medicine, and integration phases.

  • Preparation sessions are designed to build group connection and provide participants with the tools and knowledge needed for the medicine experience. These sessions focus on discussing safety, answering questions, setting intentions, discussing post-session transportation, and ensuring everyone feels prepared and supported.

  • Medicine sessions are conducted in collaboration with Made to Thrive Mental Health Wellness to ensure comprehensive medical oversight. Both a licensed psychotherapist and a medical provider will be present. During these 3-hour sessions, clients self-administer their prescribed oral ketamine and are invited to turn inward—focusing on their intentions while observing thoughts, emotions, images, and bodily sensations. Participants are not talking during this time and noticing what comes up within them. Many participants choose to use eye shades and/or music during this time, which often lasts around 60 minutes. The last part of this group is processing both individually and with the group what came up during this time.

  • Integration sessions help clients make meaning of their experiences during the medicine sessions and begin to explore how these insights can lead to meaningful changes in daily life. A variety of therapeutic approaches may be used, including art, movement, writing, and group sharing, to support the integration process and promote lasting transformation.

Who is appropriate for KAP at Mosaik Journeys?

  • Adults (18+)
  • Individuals who have experience in psychotherapy and feel comfortable exploring their inner world
  • Those navigating depression, anxiety, trauma, eating disorders, or attachment-related wounds
  • People who feel drawn to healing in community and are open to sharing space with others on a similar path

Who is not appropriate for KAP at Mosaik Journeys?

While KAP can be a powerful tool for healing, it is not appropriate for everyone. At Mosaik Journeys, KAP may not be suitable for individuals who fall into the following categories:

  • Individuals under the age of 18
  • Those without reliable transportation home following medicine sessions
  • Individuals who are new to therapy or have limited experience with therapeutic work
  • Those who are unable or unwilling to engage in a group setting
  • Individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia or other psychotic or thought disorders
  • Individuals with certain medical conditions that may contraindicate ketamine use

*Caution will also be used when considering individuals with a diagnosis of Bipolar Disorder and/or a history of substance use challenges. Participation in KAP for these individuals will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis to ensure safety and appropriateness.

 How do I get started?

Mosaik Journeys will collaborate with Made to Thrive Mental Health Wellness to provide comprehensive KAP services.

  1. To begin, interested individuals will first complete a diagnostic evaluation and medical clearance with a provider at Made to Thrive to ensure KAP is medically and psychiatrically appropriate. To schedule this initial evaluation, please contact Made to Thrive at (260) 900-2339.
  2. Once medically cleared, the next step is to complete a KAP Readiness Assessment with Mosaik Journeys. This assessment includes a thorough biopsychosocial evaluation, a discussion of personal goals and intentions for KAP, an exploration of whether the group format is a good fit, and the development of an individualized treatment plan.

What is the investment?

At this time, KAP is not covered by insurance, as ketamine is being used off-label and is not currently FDA-approved for psychiatric conditions.

The total cost for the 6-week, 20-hour KAP group is $2,000. This fee is not billable to insurance.

Please note that this cost does not include:

  • The diagnostic and medical clearance evaluation at Made to Thrive Mental Health Wellness, which may be billable to your insurance
  • The prescribed medication
  • The KAP Readiness Assessment at Mosaik Journeys, which is a one-time fee of $100

We understand that this is a significant investment and are happy to answer any questions or explore whether this experience feels like the right fit for you at this time.
